Frequently Asked Questions:
Why is it important to receive Speech / Language Treatment?
Everyone deserves the right to communicate their ideas, thoughts and needs. Family members often mean well when they anticipate the communication of a person with severe speech / language difficulties and/or speak for them. However, interventions and supports that improve communication should be explored. Key 2 Speech can help you or your loved one to trial modes of communication, evaluate and have access to augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) and other assistive technology as determined. Some examples of AAC include using a low-tech eye gaze board, using switches that activate messages and/or to use touch, eye gaze or a gesture (ex. blink, smile, raise an eyebrow) to activate a speech message on a device. See the Communication Bill of Rights for more information on the importance of giving each person a voice and increasing participation and dignity.
How do I get a referral for Speech / Language Evaluation & Treatment?
See your primary care provider about your concerns and for a referral to Key 2 Speech. With some insurances, you may also be able to make the referral yourself. Check with your insurance carrier (call the number on the back of the card) on exactly what steps you need to take for coverage.

What are the cancellation policies?
Key 2 Speech requires a 24 hour cancelation notice to avoid a fee. Although we understand that illness or emergency events may arise quickly, we need the 24 hours notice to schedule another client in the canceled session. It is also required to make up a missed session by the client or therapist within a reasonable time period.
What is the difference between In-person therapy & virtual services?
In-person therapy is when the speech therapist and client are face-to-face in the same room.
Telepractice / Telehealth is also known as virtual services. The therapist and client are in two different spaces or even different towns or states and connect with a secure platform to see and interact with each other.
What are 4 benefits of virtual services?
1. Cost savings. You won't be driving anywhere.
2. Fewer cancelations. Minor illnesses or poor weather won't be a problem.
3. Family coaching. Family/care givers can observe and learn as well.
4. Flexibility. The virtual location can be the client's home, school, or office and there's some wiggle room if needing to reschedule.
What are the cons of virtual services?
Virtual services may not be the right fit for everyone. Sometimes the individual is not able to attend for the full time period. However, we break up the time with movement breaks and rewarding activities. It's helpful to have a caregiver nearby to assist with login and other technical issues that may arise. Insurance may not cover virtual services.
What health and safety measures are taken?

* Appointment required
* Telepractice/Virtual sessions are offered as warranted
* Clients are encouraged to cancel sessions if ill
